Our spirits were high going into the event, and we certainly had lots of chances in many games to bring home the win. Unfortunately, it simply wasn't our year with Sydney Scorpions winning most women's divisions and a few others here and there.
With that said, we dominated the men's divisions, winning the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's divisions. We also took out the Open Mixed. Unfortunately, our women's campaign was impacted greatly by the loss of a number of players late in the lead-up to the event due to injury, and whilst this gave the opportunity for players to "play up" a division, it meant that teams across the ages lost some of their best players. As a result, we didn't have any women's teams come away as victors.
Congratulations to the following Sharkies for their individual awards:
Karen Smith Player of the Series - Tiarni Bryce (South Queensland Sharks - Women's Open)
Male Player of the Final - Jesse Leituvae (South Queensland Sharks - Mixed Open)
Player of the Final - Khanui Cox (South Queensland Sharks - Men's 30's)
Player of the Final - Aaron Jones (South Queensland Sharks - Men's 40's)
Player of the Final - Bruce MacDonald (South Queensland Sharks - Men's 50's)
We were runners-up in the All Abilities Tier 2 division with our newest team, primarily stemming from the Redlands area. What an amazing achievement it was, and who could forget the encouragement and leadership of Tom Daly or the magical 5-tries by Nick Kruske in the Grand Final.

Our referees also did an amazing job with Matt Lavery and Lee Rossow achieving Grand Finals, while Levi Yeaman, Damien Miller, Matthew Sheppard, Rebecca Buzacott and John Camilleri received their upgrades. Neil O'Brien received his 10-year service for National representation; no small feat at all. Congratulations to all representative referees.
