2021 NYC Campaign Review

A great time was had by South Queensland Sharks players, coaches and referees on the Sunshine Coast last week at the 2021 National Youth Championships. Eight of our twelve Sharks teams reached the Semi Finals with two teams progressing to the Grand Final however some narrow defeats meant that no Sharks team was victorious in 2021.

Overall there were solid results across the board and the four development teams sent by SQBD all recorded at least one win with some great results through the event. The Sharks U16 Boys featured in a memorable Grand Final which was arguably the match of the tournament, eventually going down to South West Queensland 12 tries to 13 in a nerve wrecking 3-player drop-off.

A record number of referees represented the region at NYC 2021 and the group had some great results with Matt Lavery receiving the award for Male Referee of the Tournament and Charlise Falconer receiving the award for Female Junior Referee of the Tournament. Thank you and well done to all of our referees.

A special mention must go out to the Under 18 players who played their final junior touch event at NYC 2021, many of whom have proudly represented Sharks for a number of years. We thank you and hope to see you remain a Shark at NTL in 2022 and beyond.
