Sharks Day 2 Report - NYC 2020

Day 2 saw very positive results across all divisions as the Sharkies battled hard in the Sunny Coast heat. Day 2 was very much a preparation day for finals as all of our teams remain in contention for a crack at their title. CQ Bulls have proven tough competition across almost all divisions and it seems the overall region championship will be hotly contested! See below for schedules and day 2 reports from our coaching staff.

12 Boys

  • Win vs NQ Cyclones 9 - 3

  • Win vs BC Cobras 6 - 4

Coming into the second day undefeated knowing we had a top of the table clash to finish the day we knew we had to start strong and continue the form from day 1. Started the day with a convincing 9-3 win against NQ. Moving forward to the game of the day in the 12 Boys division, coming away with a courageous win over Cobras 6-4. Undefeated going into the final day of footy with a target on our backs.

12 Girls

  • Win vs Sharks Development 4 - 2

  • Win vs NQ Cyclones 4 - 2

  • Loss vs CQ Bulls 1 - 5

Solid day for the 12 Girls which started off with a great game against the Sharks 12’s development team which really showed the depth of talent in our region. Another close win over NQ was followed by a loss to CQ who have set the standard in this division so far. The girls are excited for finals day where we know anything can happen!

12 Girls Development

  • Loss vs Sharks 12’s Girls 2 - 4

  • Win vs SC Pineapples 11 - 3

12 Girls development side had 2 games today. The first game was against our A side and boy did we hold our own. Took it to them and played out of our skin. Went down 4-2. SO PROUD. Second game was a victory against sunny coast 11-3 with some awsome tries scored and some great defence also. Great day today for our girls and hoping things fall our way so we can grab a semi final berth!

14 Boys

  • Win vs SC Pineapples 11 - 7

  • Win vs NQ Cyclones 13 - 6

Day 2 saw the sharks 14 boys rack up another 2 wins from 2 games.

First against a hard running and well coached Sunny Coast side. Boys leaked a couple of tries but they found some attacking power and came home with an 11-7 win.

Final Round game was against North Queensland and it was evident that they were finally starting to peak with a 13-6 victory. Some of the tries were beautiful to watch and the Defence in the middles were solid. If they can show what they can do and play to their full potential tomorrow, nothing should stop them!!

Let’s hope finals day they peak at the right time because if they do... look out!!

Let’s go Sharkies!!

14 Girls

  • Loss vs CQ Bulls 4 - 5

  • Win vs SWQ Swans 6 - 3

  • Win vs SC Pineapples 8 - 2

Day 2 game 1 awesome effort by the girls really showed us what they can do as a team nail biting game against CQ we went down 5 to 4 game 2 again played outstanding as a team started really gelling and beating the swans 6 to 3 game 3 we again played with confidence and was proud of them after a long day in the sun to win 8 to 2 over pineapples

14 Girls Development

  • Loss vs SWQ Swans 1 - 8

  • Loss vs NQ Cyclones 2 - 5

A slow start against Swans saw them get out to an early 5 try lead. The girls regrouped well in stages for the next 30 mins ending up with a 1-8 loss. We spoke about enjoying the game by doing the little things right and going from there. A 2-5 loss against Cyclones followed but the girls brought a lot of enthusiasm to this game and played very well and it was pleasing to see them working hard and enjoying it!

16 Boys

  • Win vs NQ Cyclones 13 - 6

  • Win vs SC Pineapples 14 - 5

  • Loss vs CQ Bulls 7 - 8

A solid day for the 16’s Boys as we build towards Saturday morning’s semi final. 2 high scoring wins was followed by an intriguing top of the table clash against old rivals Central Queensland. CQ got the win over us in what may well be a Grand Final preview if we keep our heads down and play the way we know we can!

16 Girls

  • Win vs SWQ Swans 8 - 2

  • Loss vs CQ Bulls 4 - 9

  • Win vs BC Cobras 9 - 3

Solid day for the 16’s Girls with a win first up against Swans. Tough game against CQ saw us go down by 5 but learning plenty along the way before a 9-3 win against Cobras. Finished 2nd in the Pool And looking forward to our semi against Cobras at 850 on Field 1.

18 Boys

  • Loss vs CQ Bulls 6 - 10

  • Loss vs NQ Cyclones 1 - 3

One step forwards, two steps backwards kind of day for the 18 Boys. Lost the first game to CQ 10-6, then lost to NQ 3-1 in an ultra defensive game! Semi final at 10:40 in the morning against NQ again where we look to make up for it and learn from our mistakes!

18 Girls

  • Win vs NQ Cyclones 6 - 4

  • Win vs BC Cobras 8 - 5

  • Win vs SWQ Swans 7 - 5

Today was a great day for the 18’s girls in some trying conditions as we battled away for three hard fought wins. Perfect preparation for finals day as we look to defend our title and peak at the right time.
